PHOENIX SUNS CHARITIES SHOT AT GLORY PRESENTED BY SNELL & WILMER LLP RETURNS TO THE FAMED 16th HOLE

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Ever wonder what it would be like to hit a shot on the famed par-3, 16th hole at the TPC Scottsdale during the Waste Management Phoenix Open? One lucky WM Phoenix Open fan and one lucky Phoenix Suns fan will get a chance along with a number of war heroes, celebrities and sponsors during the Phoenix Suns Charities Shot at Glory presented by Snell & Wilmer LLP on Wednesday, February 1st.  This unique closest-to-the-pin contest is a friendly competition featuring roughly 25 participants and will take place following the completion of the FBR/Xerox Silver Pro-Am at approximately 3:30 pm. The event is open to spectators – in fact Waste Management Phoenix Open fans are encouraged to stick around and cheer-on the participants.The Waste Management Phoenix Open fan participating in the Shot at Glory will be chosen randomly by tournament officials on the day of the event. The Phoenix Suns fan participating in the Shot at Glory will be chosen randomly from the team’s season ticketholders. The celebrity, Wounded Warrior and sponsor participants will be released at a later date.Past Shot at Glory winners include: New York Post sportswriter Mark Cannizzaro (2008), Tilted Kilt Executive John Reynaud (2009) and rock star Alice Cooper (2010). The 2011 Shot at Glory event was canceled due to frozen turf. Tournament host The Thunderbirds will award more than $100,000 to the charities chosen by each competitor. Plus, if a participant makes a hole-in-one, $1 million will be given away ($500,000 to the competitor, $500,000 to the charity of their choice) If no one makes a hole-in-one, $40,000 will be donated to the charity of the participant who is closest-to-the-pin, while $25,000 and $15,000 will be donated to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers, respectively.  Each of the remaining participant’s charities will receive $1,000. www.wmphoenixopen.com

PHIL MICKELSON AND DUSTIN JOHNSON AMONG LATEST COMMITMENTS TO 2012 WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN FIELD

PHOENIX, Ariz. – 39-time PGA TOUR winner (including the 1995 & 2005 Phoenix Opens) Phil Mickelson and five-time PGA TOUR winner and 8th ranked player on the Official World Golf Rankings Dustin Johnson are among the latest commitments to the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open.  The 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played the week of January 30 – February 5 at the TPC Scottsdale. To date, four of the top six and 88 of the top 125 leading Money Winners from the 2011 PGA TOUR Season have committed to play in the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The field includes 16 of the top 30 from the 2011 FedEx Cup final standings. A field of 132 players will vie for the $6.1 million purse, the $1,098,000 first-place check and FedEx Cup points.Webb Simpson (No. 2), Nick Watney (No. 3), Dustin Johnson (No. 5) and Kuchar (No. 6) are the four leading Money Winners to commit. PGA TOUR members have until 5 p.m. on Friday, January 27, to commit to play in the Waste Management Phoenix Open.  Eligible players are assigned one of 34 PGA TOUR priority ranking categories based on their past performance on TOUR. The field will continue to change as players with higher priority rankings commit to play in the Open. Three-time Phoenix Open Champion Mark Calcavecchia, PGA TOUR rookie Harris English and 15-time PGA TOUR winner Fred Couples received the first three sponsor exemptions. The Thunderbirds have a total of five exemptions to give out to the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The remaining two exemptions will be announced in the coming days leading up to the tournament. Other notables currently in the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open field include; 12-time PGA TOUR winner Justin Leonard, 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters Champion Angel Cabrera, 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover, 2009 tournament champion Kenny Perry, two-time Phoenix Open Champion Vijay Singh, Brandt Snedeker, Charles Howell III as well as a host of 2011 first-time winners including Jhonattan Vegas, Scott Stallings, Brendon Steele, Bryce Molder, Chris Kirk, D.A. Points, Jacobson, Harrison Frazar, Kevin Na and Scott Piercy. A number of local golfers also have committed including Robert Garrigus, Ricky Barnes, Martin Laird, Billy Mayfair, Pat Perez, Chez Reavie, Mathew Goggin and Kevin Streelman.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played January 30 – February 5, 2012, at the TPC Scottsdale. The tournament host Thunderbirds have raised more than $75 million for charities, with more than $45 million generated since 2004. The 2012 edition will mark the 77th playing of the event, making it one of the five oldest events on the PGA TOUR (not including the major championships).
